Supplemental Home Oxygen Therapy & Services
Experienced Respiratory Clinicians at HME Specialists evaluate a patient’s preference, lifestyle and medical needs to deliver the best oxygen treatment.
Options for treatment include, traditional oxygen concentrators, home filling devices, portable oxygen concentrators, various conserving devices and all sizes of oxygen cylinders. In addition to oxygen systems, HME Specialists provide Sleep Related Products & Services, Nebulizers, Aerosol Therapy, Trach Management and Adult & Pediatric Ventilators.
Traditional Oxygen Concentrators
The most commonly utilized delivery system. Powered by 110 current, this device is intended for home or institutional use. Benefits are uninterrupted production of purified oxygen in a continuous flow with settings up to 10 liters per minute (lpm). Concentrators never run out and are more mobile than liquid oxygen systems. They can be moved throughout the home or even transported by auto for reasonable distances with no interruption of power. In an event a power interruption occurs, the concentrator will shut down. So as safeguard, HME always provides patients with back-up oxygen when on continuous use.
Home Filling System
This option allows patients to refill their own cylinders at their convenience in their home. Patient’s personal schedules benefit by not having to wait on provider deliveries. This is a great option for ambulatory patients that do not want to be constrained by limited cylinders or delivery schedules.
Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC)
The perfect solution for patients enjoying extended travel. Benefits include battery-powered portability, airline approval and elimination of hassle with providers during travel. Disadvantages in using portable oxygen concentrators include limitations due to battery power, flexibility of continuous oxygen flow versus pulse dose delivery and liter flow capacity on a continuous basis.
Most major airlines accept portable oxygen concentrators. However, the policies for each major airline may vary. In general, airlines do require advance notice, prescription, doctor’s release and service charges. Please check with the airline of choice prior to travel for policies regarding travel with a POC.
Utilization of oxygen conserving devices (OCD) are highly encouraged. The greatest benefit is the ability of the patient to extend the useable hours of a standard cylinder setup.
Cylinders come in varying sizes and are typically dispensed based on patient lifestyle needs. Cylinders may be equipped with or without OCD’s and me be transported via strollers, wheelchair brackets/slings or by carrying bag.
